MIDWEST CHAPTER
NATIONAL ANGER MANAGEMENT ASSOCIATION
MINUTES OF BOARD MEETING
May 16, 2015
MEMBERS PRESENT: Glen Cannon, Lynette Hoy. Conferenced-in: Terry Roseborough.
Meeting Called to Order 6:40 p.m.
Location: 1200 Harger Rd., Suite 602, Oak Brook, IL 60523.
Minutes from the May 18, 2015 Meeting were approved
Treasurer’s report: Per Lynette, the current checking balance is $155.00. Accepted.
New Business:
1. Increase participation at meetings: plan to use conference calling at $30.00 per call using TBGconferencing.com for meetings to increase attendance at chapter meetings.
2. There is a need to set standards for anger management programs/services and providers in Midwest region. Glen discovered that Psychology Today therapists/providers do not have anger management credentials.
Need: Many people needing anger management services or who are court-ordered take an online course or a 3 hour course. It was determined that this is not sufficient.
Plan: to write up a recommended program outline with standards for provider credentials to be approved by MCNAMA members and by NAMA. Requirements: Minimum standard programs should provide at least ten hours of anger management sessions and providers should be trained by NAMA approved programs and hold the NAMA credentials of Certified Anger Management Specialist-I or II.
3. It was decided to postpone elections.
4. Next meeting: TBA.
1200 Harger Rd., Suite 602, Oak Brook, IL. Lynette’s number is 708.341.5438.
Meeting adjourned at 7.30 p.m.
Respectfully submitted,
Lynette Hoy, Secretary
My recommendation is that anger management programs should be evidence-based and include these research-based strategies: cognitive restructuring; behavioral and relaxation skills. We can provide an example/outline of a program to courts, schools, employers, corrections, etc and post on web site.
