Minutes of Zoom Board Meeting. 08/19/2020
Members Present: Glen Cannon, President; Lynette Hoy, Secretary. Daniel Hostetler, Lois Jones-Myles, Bill Potterbaum, Terry and Alex Roseborough, Kimberly Thomas, Steve Yeschek.
Meeting called to order: 7 p.m.
Financial Report: $140.55
1. Update on goals, status of chapter– Glen reviewed the goals of MCNAMA and the standards for programs and providers.
A. Assessment: screen to include bio-psycho-social to determine anger Level I or II, rules sheet/guidelines for group or individual sessions, description of program requirements, fee agreement, pre-test; all to be signed by client.
Level I: Low/Mild Score on AMA= 10hrs of evidence-based anger management education over a period of 7-10 weeks.
Level II: Moderate/Severe Score on AMA=16hrs or more of education over a period of 12 weeks.
B. Program Overview: Assessment, pre/post tests (use of standardized/validated inventories), 10-16 hours of session work, assignments, Empirically-supported anger management concepts and strategies, maintenance sessions. Progress reports written weekly and Post-test delivered at final session/exit interview. Post-test: pass at 80%. Note: Anger Management Programs should be evidence-based and/or approved by the MCNAMA chapter officers.
C. Program Content: Goals, objectives, interventions, overview of anger including constructive vs destructive elements, physiological process, triggers and cues, cognitive restructuring, behavioral skills (including time-outs, assertiveness, empathy, triggers/cues/strategies), communication, emotional intelligence, stress reduction & relaxation techniques, conflict resolution, forgiveness, triggers identification, personal responsibility, & assertiveness vs aggressiveness.*
Anger Management Provider Standards include: All providers must meet the National Anger Management Association training program standards for Specialists and must hold active certification by NAMA as: CAMS-I, CAMS-II, CAMS-III, CAMS-IV or CAMS-V.
Note: All CAMS-I providers must adhere to offering educational services only unless under the supervision of a fully licensed mental health professional.
All MCNAMA and NAMA Members are encouraged to provide the MCNAMA/NAMA program and provider standards to courts, employers, family attorneys/mediators, etc.
2. Process for board member applications and election of officers discussed. All board members must be NAMA members and actively certified as CAMS-II or above. All other MCNAMA members should be actively certified by NAMA as CAMS-I through CAMS-V and pay the MCNAMA membership fee.
Members and attendees (who meet the above qualifications) interested in becoming Board members and officers will be emailed a request for a bio and a vision statement. Once the Board is established – they will elect officers.
3. Group discussion on “What can the MCNAMA chapter do for providers?” establish and disseminate information on anger management standards and services and qualified programs to court jurisdictions, attorneys, correctional departments, schools, communities, agencies, employers. Possibly offer a list/directory of members/speakers/providers on web site.
How can providers speak to the societal instability? Through education on anger management protocols, standards to community groups and organizations.
